Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year Old 2016
Sitting squarely in the middle of the Van Winkle family lineup, Van Winkle Special Reserve 12 Year Lot B is an all-around outstanding pour. For many, this bottle rests at the ideal intersection of age and strength. Each sip of this bourbon, otherwise known as Pappy 12 Year, delivers waves of decadent toffee, freshly toasted nuts, and soothing brown spices. The long, lingering finish can compete with any excellent cognac, making Van Winkle 12 Year Special Reserve Lot B a perfect after-dinner drink.

Mike Demonbreun –
Got a bottle of Van Winkle 12 years Lot B, and it’s really good. I paired it with a cigar, and it was a perfect match. I managed to get it for $197, and it’s been one of my best pours.
Margarett Waterbury –
The whiskey leans heavily into oak, giving it a distinct woodsy character. The finish, while a bit acidic, provides an interesting contrast with earthy, coffee-like notes. Not my top pick, but a unique experience.
Ramona –
Exceptionally balanced with subtle spice, chewy caramel, and classic toffee. While it’s smooth and approachable, Weller 12 offers more flavor at a lower price.
Vanessa –
On the nose, it’s a blend of orange marmalade and nutty undertones, but with a musty scent that I didn’t expect. The taste is more mellow, with citrus and honey making it feel like a treat, but the alcohol bite is still there.
Paula –
I managed to try it at a tasting, and the bourbon had a delicious mix of nutmeg and toffee, with a long, spiced finish. However, I find Weller 12 to be better value.
Shelly –
The bottle delivers well on the palate with its rich toffee and nutmeg. However, it’s a little overpriced for the subtlety in flavor.
Kristen –
The orange marmalade and light wood tones were a pleasant surprise. But that alcohol smell was overpowering at first. Still, a must-try for collectors.
