This 2012 bottling, a 1991 barrel, is an astounding Kentucky whiskey that is not just complex, but immaculately syrupy, smooth and seductive.

A fairly oaky and drying bourbon with layers of vanilla, caramel, and sherried fruit. Finishes long with sparks of allspice and black pepper.

A deep amber bourbon with heavy oak wood spice, baked apples, and cinnamon. It has a warm, slightly hot mouthfeel due to the oak spice. Sweetness emerges through the spiciness, leading to a candy-like finish with an oak spice kicker.

Beautifully balanced, the oak is prominent but not overwhelming. The subtle sweetness of vanilla and caramel is noticeable with a pleasant peppery finish. A great experience but harder to find these days.
